The TPO Foundation, in cooperation with the International University of Travnik (IUT) in Travnik, held a promotion of the book Who’s Afraid of Gender? by Judith Butler on November 27, 2025. The event was organized as part of the “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” campaign. The promotion was led by Amira Perenda, MA, and Selma Otuzbir-Mecan, MA. The aim of this event was to encourage dialogue on gender issues, identity, and contemporary social challenges that shape our society.
The presenters introduced the audience to the content of the book and created space for discussion and exchange of opinions on the key themes addressed in the work. The promotion was attended by the academic and administrative staff of IUT, and the following points were highlighted:
- The motives, structure, and main ideas of the book Who’s Afraid of Gender?
- Understanding the concept of gender – an explanation of the difference between gender and sex, and the way gender is constructed in society
- Gender identity and contemporary social challenges – a discussion on modern perspectives on gender identity and the challenges faced by different gender groups
- Gender-based violence – emphasizing the importance of recognizing and preventing violence, in line with the 16 Days of Activism campaign
- Media and educational representation of gender – how the media, school policies, and social frameworks shape perceptions of gender
- Open discussion with participants – a space for questions, personal reflections, and comments from students and visitors
We extend our gratitude to the students, academic staff, and all attendees who participated and contributed to this important event within the 16 Days of Activism campaign.
